Featured Family Events in May
Every season in West Michigan has it's unique, fun things to do for kids of all ages- from babies up to the "young at heart". Indoors or outdoors, no matter the time of year, there's always something great going on along the lakeshore for families to experience together!
Sandcastles Children's Museum and the Ludington and Scottville branches of the Mason County District Libraries!
Here's a list of family friendly events happening along the lakeshore in May:
May 7th, 14th, 16th, and 21st; 6:30-8:30pm
Childbirth Education Classes at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital's lower level classrooms- 1 N. Atkinson Dr. The first two classes focus on labor and delivery while the final two classes focus on caring for your baby, breast feeding, and infant safety. The cost to attend is $40, which covers all four classes. To register, call (231) 845.2357
Wednesday, May 16th, 6-7:30pm
Ludington Pop Warner Youth Football Sign-Up at the Ludington High School Cafeteria- 809 E. Tinkham Ave. Participants need to bring a copy of their birth certificate and proof of current physical (since April 15th, 2019), weigh-in upon arrival, and pay a $65 registration fee. Age groups are Junior Pee-wees- ages 8-10 and weight up to 118 pounds; and Junior Midgets- ages 10-12 and weight up to 158 pounds. Youth football camp for players will be held in August. Wednesday, May 22nd, 7-8pm
O.J. DeJonge Middle High School Orientation at Peterson Auditorium- 508 N. Washington Ave.. in Ludington. All current fifth-graders and their parents are invited to hear suggestions and insights from a panel of older students and important information about what to expect at O.J. Students will also be able to register for next year’s classes. Any area fifth-graders who plan to attend O.J. in the fall are welcome to attend. Thursday, May 23rd
8:30-10:30am - Fifth-grade students from Foster Elementary School will visit O.J. DeJonge Middle School to tour the building, participate in a question-and-answer session with mentor students and talk with staff members about their middle school transition. Students should wear comfortable tennis shoes for a gym activity. Foster students will be bussed from school for this visit. Any area fifth-graders are also invited to attend. 5-8pm - Live in the Plaza featuring the Third Coast Gypsy Jazz Band.
Friday, May 24th
Ludington North Breakwater Light and Little Sable Point Lighthouse open for the season.
Saturday, May 25th
10am-5pm - Footsteps for Families Worship Concert, Color Walk, and Craft Fair to benefit the West Shore Pregnancy Care Center at Rotary Park in downtown Ludington. For more information, visit facebook.com.
12pm - Ludington Area Jaycees Mini Golf Course opens for the season.
12pm - Jump Around Fun Center opens for the season- 1830 N. Lakeshore Dr. in Ludington.
Monday, May 27th
7am - Rich Tompkins Memorial 5k Run in Hart.
10am - Pentwater Memorial Day Parade. Line up on First Street with services at the Municipal Marina, the Village Green, and the Pentwater Cemetery.
Thursday, May 30th, 5-8pm
Live in the Plaza featuring Fremont John Ashton.
